I expected to love this movie since I love whodunit movies that take place in mansions and so many great actors are in it. Though I was a bit worried since in the past when there have been so many big stars in a movie it's been disappointing. I found Knives Out to be a disappointment and too long. It's two hours and ten minutes long and they could have easily cut out 20-30 minutes. The beginning is very slow, so that's where they could have cut out lots of boring footage. I expected the characters played by well-known stars to be complex, funny and exciting. Check out the trailer:

It was a waste to have these great actors without using their strengths to make this movie exceptional. Most of them had small parts with very short scenes. Ana de Armas and Daniel Craig had the most screen time. I'm not familiar with Ana. Out of the well-known stars, Daniel Craig was the only one that was on screen a lot. Hubby and I found his faux southern accent annoying and that's coming from two people that are fans of him and southern accents. I was able to figure out who had done it early on though Hubby who is usually great at figuring that out did not. It is a complex and interesting twist, so that's the best part of the movie. To figure it out, watch the characters' reactions, pay attention to their actions and think of their motivation for such actions. I was also able to put a clue from the beginning together for one of the final scenes. This movie had some jokes none of which I found funny though some audience members laughed. Hubby laughed twice. I was most disappointed that they didn't make the house a character as they do in most murder mysteries that occur in old sometimes haunted mansions. In the beginning, it looked like they would since they were showing us scary items in the house. Only a couple of the rooms in the house were shown, so it didn't develop as a character. Ana de Armas, Christopher Plummer, and Chris Evans were the best actors in this movie and offered the most entertainment. If Toni Collette, Don Johnson, and Jamie Lee Curtis had more screen time it's likely that they would have been awesome also. Daniel Craig should stick to his 007 movies. The final scene was rewarding.

Skip seeing this one in the theatre and wait until it comes out on DVD. The big screen isn't necessary since they missed the mark on using the house as a character and the outdoor scenes and those around town weren't visually entertaining. The mansion movie I've seen recently that I highly recommend is Ready or Not.

Have a PEACEful Day!
