The next season of HBO’s True Detective series has officially begun production in Iceland. The show that became an instant hit in its first season had a hard path after season 2 didn’t live up to the hype. A long awaited third season brought the series back from the dead with a great critical response. It is now seeing another resurgence with a fourth season that’s starring Jodie Foster and Kali Reis as two detectives investigating the disappearance of six men from a remote Alaskan station.
Iceland is doubling for Alaska in the limited run series. It’s estimated that the fourth season is going to cost HBO roughly $64.8 million.
Here’s a brief synopsis of the upcoming season which is set to appear on HBO sometime in mid-2023.
In True Detective: Night Country, from writer/director/showrunner Issa López, when the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.
